Jack Tretton, the outspoken President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, has boldly claimed the company takes more risks than Nintendo and caters to a wider audience than both of its competitors combined.
“In an industry that’s certainly had its challenges this year, we like to say that the environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry. We have a brand that can play on a worldwide basis, young and old, male and female, where our competition tends to be relegated to either select regions or to select consumer audiences.
We don’t have unlimited money, we cater to a more mass market audience. I think we’re willing to take a little bit more risk than a competitor like Nintendo is and ultimately we deliver to the masses on a worldwide basis and that’s what we’ve done for the last 15 years.”

Sony appear to be almost in denial with regards to just how phenomenally successful the original DS has been at expanding the video gaming marketplace beyond the stereotypical teenage gamer.
Will DSi do well with [the DS's] demographic? It probably will. Will it be a product that expands their user base [beyond] under 12? I’m not sure.

Choice Magazine has conducted a series of tests which have highlighted just how much power is consumed by next generation consoles.
Leading the pack was the PlayStation 3, which according to Choice “consumed over 10 times as much power as the Nintendo Wii“. Coming in guilty second was Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console which was tied alongside a standard plasma television set.
Our tests also found that leaving a PlayStation 3 on while not in use would cost almost $250 (£121) a year in electricity bills (charged at 15c (7p) per kWh). This alone is around five times more than it would take to run a refrigerator for the same yearly period.

An outspoken Phil Harrison makes a stonkingly bold claim stating that that third party developers miss 40% of the Wii audience.
To counteract this fairly audacious claim EA Blueprint’s Neil Young went on record to cite EA’s very own Smarty Pants as evidence that this fictional claim isn’t entirely true.
