Whilst the Nintendo Wii remains the best selling console of this generation it’s common knowledge that sales in recent times have been on the decline. Satoru Iwata has accepted this, and has issued a smaller target for the full year – only 20 million units compared to the previous 26 million forecast..
“Wii has stalled. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become ‘the next thing.’ In the game market, once you’ve lost the momentum, it takes time to recover. With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time.”

Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has causally informed investors that he doesn’t believe Nintendo need a new console anytime soon.
“Among the 295.6 million active users, 209.5 million people are playing with our products. To tell you the truth, we at Nintendo had set 200 million as an internal milestone, and we already surpassed it this spring!.
“In addition, among 149.5 million of potential users – another room of expansion – there are 86.1 million people who have never tried Wii or DS yet. So numerically there is still a possibility to even double the current user population of Wii and DS.
“Thus we do not believe at all that the expansion has come to an end nor do we need a new console any time soon. So we have not set specific years for the lifespan of current game systems.”

Satoru Iwata firmly believes that the Wii’s accelerometers work better than the new technology that drives both Microsofts and Sony’s new motion sensing technology.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Satoru Iwata explained that Nintendo had experimented with motion sensing cameras but the technology was ultimately rejected primarily because the Wii’s current accelerometer-based technology worked better.
Until they say when they’re releasing it, how much it costs, and what software it comes with, we won’t know whether that is the route we should have taken, however…I think they couldn’t choose to release exactly the same thing. Companies whose people said that motion sensing wouldn’t work are now proposing motion sensors.

Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has sadly revealed that there won’t be a HD version of the Wii in the future.
Speaking to online publication, Venture Beat, Iwata states that there isn’t a high definition version of the Wii in R&D at Nintendo. Whilst the Wii won’t ever support 720p/1080i/1080p visuals, the next successor to the enormously successful Wii console most certainly will.
If we have an opportunity to make a new console, it will probably support HD because it is now common throughout the world. However, as far as the Wii is concerned, we have not found a significant reason to make it HD-compatible at this time. What is the significant meaning to users? I don’t think we should do it unless we find that reason. If we decide for other reasons to make new hardware, then HD is one of the things we would naturally add.

Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, boldly proclaimed that “the Wii is in the most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market”, however, despite the initially gloomy outlook there’s still no planned price-cut for the innovative video games console.
“A price cut in a difficult economy cannot really excite the market and drive up sales. As of now I really don’t think that a price cut is a good option for us.”

It appears the design procedure for the Nintendo DSi was a “frustrating” experience according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
Initially Nintendo decided to listen to customer feedback regarding implementing an additional DS card slot, but this however presented them with a much bulkier system than they’d originally anticipated, therefore the final iteration has only one DS card slot and subsequently looks all the better for it.

Whilst video gaming sales have boomed dramatically through 2008 and are set to continue doing so during 2009, Nintendo are scrupulously observing the market and public buying trends.
In a recent interview with the popular Japanese newspaper, The Yomiuri Shimbun, Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata further backed up claims that a large majority of young consumers are delegating money for video gaming, instead of other causal past-times such as eating out and watching films.

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president claims that whilst times are hard for consumers given the current economic climate, customers are still prepared to spend their hard earned money on both the Nintendo Wii and DS.
“When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list, fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list.”
