Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime clearly denounced the likely hood of the Wii HD in a recent interview with Game Trailers TV, but it appears Nintendo of Japan are openly undecided on providing HD support in the future.
“Since our division has been reviewing and developing a number of hardware, we are looking into many different things, including HD and SD… However, we have not come to the stage where we can announce which is the most appropriate means. Since an increasing number of the TV sets at home around the world are becoming HD today, it will be natural for a machine to be able to generate graphics that people will be accustomed to see on HD televisions. Since the ordinary TV programmes are now shifting to HD, moving to HD appears to me a natural flow.
“I believe that we should take the most appropriate balance,” he added. “We are not too much concerned about if the technology itself is the state-of-the-art or rather old-fashioned. If we can find out the most appropriate medium, between SD and HD, and flexibly move around them depending on the game’s contents, it will be good, I think.”
Famed Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto said: “As long as my way of making games are concerned, all I am concerned about technologies is, we probably cannot swim against the tide. The customers’ tastes will become more and more refined. Even today, many customers who have seen HD once say they cannot go back to SD.
He later added: “Regarding the question of SD or HD, it must depend on each software. For example, we have to ask ourselves if HD is really necessary to develop Wii Fit. Won’t HD be better for the games like Pikmin? The developers should choose the most appropriate graphical format depending on the software they make. To Nintendo, our theme is how we can prepare the SDK library to cater to the needs of the developers, with which the developers can more easily develop their games.”

“We haven’t committed to Zelda for 2010… so we’ll see how that continues to develop,” Fils-Aime told GameTrailers TV.

Reggie Fils-Aime has clearly stated on Game Trailers TV: Nintendo Special that despite what Michael Patcher has lead us to believe, Nintendo are not going to be releasing a high definition version of the Wii.
“Michael [Pachter] continues to be the only one that believes this is going to happen,” the NoA president told presenter Geoff Keighley.
“I don’t know how forcefully we can say that there is no Wii HD.”

Reggie Fils-Aime, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, has blasted Sony’s recently released PSP Go stating the console itself is fundamentally flawed in concept.
The PSP Go may have a fundamental concept problem in terms of ‘Who’s it for?’ and ‘What’s the benefit?’ I have the utmost respect for all our competitors, but it’s interesting to try and answer the consumer question of ‘What’s in it for me?’ in that product.

The fabled Kid Icarus could be coming to Nintendo Wii according to Reggie Fils Aime.
When questioned about the current lack of mature first party games, Reggie responded “We do Mario, we do Donkey Kong, Zelda, and Kid Icarus. That’s what we do. That’s the type of products we bring to life. It’s always been the third party licensees that push the edge, …not necessarily by Nintendo.”

President and CEO of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Aime, has reiterated again that Nintendo haven’t been ignoring the needs of the ‘core’ gamer.
“…But I think it’s a mistake to say that we’ve ignored the gamer or that we don’t have products for the core gamer. I mean, New Super Mario Bros. has every gamer excited. Just the little tidbits that we’ve shown about the new Zelda for Wii has gamers tremendously excited. We’re going to continue to bring great content both to that experienced player as well as the brand new player, and that’s what we do really well.”

Speaking to online gaming publication Kotaku, Reggie Fils-Aime has asked gamers what titles they would love to see reworked by different developers for current Nintendo platforms.
“In the same vein of Team Ninja working with Nintendo to re-imagine Metroid,” he asked, “what other developer they’d like to see partner and collaborate with Nintendo? And on what franchise?”

Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils Aime finds Microsoft’s Project Natal motion sensing camera rather “ironic“.
Whilst both Microsoft and Sony are busy claiming that they’re the future of video gaming with their motion sensing peripherals, Reggie Fils Aime stresses that the future is already here via the Nintendo Wii.
Our first reaction is that it is ironic that, three or four years ago, the prevailing industry opinion was that prettier pictures or more horsepower were the waves of the future.
And now it’s clear from both of our competitors that physical activity in gaming is the wave of the future. It’s also ironic that, for Nintendo, the future is here. The future is now.

With an array of promising new software to be unveiled at this years E3 event, Nintendo vow to show a captivating amount of new titles this year to make up for last years anti-climax.
Whilst nothings been confirmed, it does seem apparent that Nintendo are embracing the press more than usual during the run up to this years E3 event. Hopefully this means that we will given more insight into some of the bigger titles that are currently under top-secret development at Nintendo R&D, unlike last years event in which we saw a disappointingly small scattering of first party titles.
We haven’t announced a launch date for The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, maybe we’ll do that at E3. You know, everyone wants to know what we’re going to announce at E3 and my answer is, come to E3 and you’ll see…
From Nintendo’s perspective, we always go into E3 with a very high bar wanting to satisfy not only the core fans but also ourselves. We’re hoping to do a much better job this year. You’ll have to see for yourself.
