In a recent interview with the Financial Times Nintendo are currently considering adding free 3G to the next DS.
With the iPhone currently dominating the handset market, giving its plethora of users access to 3G Internet wherever they go, Nintendo’s current wireless access for the DS seems a little draconian. Nintendo is therefore considering adding an extra up front charge to their next iteration of the DS, in exchange for free lifetime 3G access.
“Only people who can pay thousands of yen a month [in mobile phone subscriptions] can be iPhone customers. That doesn’t fit Nintendo customers because we make amusement products. In reality, if we did this it would increase the cost of the hardware, and customers would complain about Nintendo putting prices up, but it is one option for the future.”

Those thinking the mighty Rare have given up developing for the Nintendo DS are mistaken if this recent quote is anything to go by.

It appears the majority of consumers are baffled as to what the ‘i’ actually represents when referring to the forthcoming DSi.
According to representatives at Nintendo the ‘i’ in DSi actually refers to the fact that the new iteration of the DS contains a camera, essentially turning the i’ into a ‘eye’. Additionally, the ‘i’ is symbolic of the subject ‘I’ and the personal aspect attributed to that.

New information regarding data compatibility between the Nintendo Ds and the forthcoming Wii version of Animal Crossing has been revealed.
The upcoming Nintendo Power issue has some new details that proves Nintendo is choosing to continue on its path of innovation, while simultaneously creating another license to print money. If like me, you’ve spent hours of your life playing Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS, get excited, for Nintendo is including some rather fun DS-to-Wii functionality. For starters, players will be able to import their avatars from the DS to the Wii. Players will also be able to “take your travel data and download it to your DS.” Does this mean traveling from town to town across the Wii and DS?
