Zelda series director Eiji Aonuma recently sat down with British news publication The Guardian and provided them with some interesting information regarding the next Zelda title for the Nintendo Wii.
“I have an eight-year-old son myself at home, and quite recently he started playing Phantom Hourglass for DS, because when the software first hit the market he was too young. When he started playing with the boat, I told him: ‘In the next Zelda, you are going to be able to ride on the train.’ He answered: ‘OK, Dad, first boat, and then train? Surely next time, Link is going to fly in the sky … ‘”
At this point Aonuma paused, grining saying: “I just don’t know. If many people make many speculations … some of them might be correct. Right now, I have to refrain from commenting on anything.”

During a lengthy Q&A session on Nintendo’s official website Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the critically acclaimed Mario 64 initially had a multiplayer mode, but it was sadly scrapped due to hardware restraints.
Iwata: Ever since Mario Bros., you’ve had your heart set on making a multiplayer Mario game. You’ve tried each time, but it’s never quite come together… Even with Mario 64, it started with Mario and Luigi running around together, didn’t it?
Miyamoto: That’s right. The screen was split and they went into the castle separately. When they meet in the corridor, I was incredibly happy! (laughs) Then there was also the mode where the camera is fixed and we see Mario running away, steadily getting smaller and smaller.
Iwata: Yes, that’s right.
Miyamoto: That was a remnant of an experiment we did where Mario and Luigi would run away from each other but you could still see them both. But we were unable to pull it off…

Whilst the majority of next generation titles have embraced 3D, Shigeru Miyamoto still believes that two dimensions can still provide the player with equally as engaging game worlds.
I don’t think everything needs to be 3D, or that just because we’re seeing more 2D games now, that everything’s going to shift back to 2D. I think that what’s going on is that people are realizing the benefits of a 3D game, and at the same time, remembering what the benefits of 2D games were. When going to 2D, you need the courage to not be so attached to visual appearance of the games and to really pursue the gameplay experience.

Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma recently spoke to online gaming publication, IGN, and informed them that the overall structure of the Zelda franchise is set to change with Zelda Wii.
“We’re making efforts regarding the total flow of the Zelda game. So far, the basic flow of the Zelda games is you’re exploring a field, you go to a dungeon, you conquer it and return to the field. We’re looking at altering that traditional flow. That’s all I can share, and I can’t say more until E3 next year.”

Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma, the Legend of Zelda producer, recently sat down with the Official Nintendo Magazine and informed them that they’re hoping there will be a huge Zelda Wii related surprise at E3 2010.
“It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise.”
“So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version.”
“I hope that we can show you something at the E3 show next year and it is something we are hopeful will be surprising.”

Whilst a plethora of highly anticipated franchises are making their way onto both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Nintendo are trying relentlessly to persuade certain publishers to provide Wii owners with similar offerings.
“I think for those games (i.e Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed etc), typically decisions are being made two years prior,” Fils-Aime says. “And so the decisions two years ago were that those types of games would not be effective on the platform. But we’ve shown that that’s just not the case. High-quality, effectively marketed against our installed base will sell, period — end of story.”
“Upgrading to HD is not the way we at Nintendo do things. The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it’s because there are some fundamental things the [current] console cannot do,what that says is that simply the addition of HD capability will not be the next step for us. There will be more to it. There will be additional capability. There will be additional elements, and, given that, it is far into the future.”

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken openly to news network CNBC about his feelings on Modern Warfare 2’s phenomenal success.
You know, I was not (surprised about Modern Warfare 2’s success). We know that it’s a high-quality title. We know that it will do exceptionally well. Their challenge is going to be sustaining that. It was so big so fast, what happens next week and the week after? Versus, Mario is going to sell for high numbers every day now through, really, for the next couple of years”
